Name: A look back…

The Missing released its first episode in December 2020. In the four years since, we’ve covered more than seventy missing person cases, across the UK and Ireland. In the course of our work, we’ve spoken to hundreds of parents, spouses, sons, daughters and friends, whose brave and unvarnished testimonies have shone a light on a grim phenomenon that more often than not, is underreported in our communities.

Their stories have taken us everywhere from the controlled chaos of London’s busiest boroughs, to the quiet and lonely peaks of the Scottish highlands…We’ve been brought along on voyages of discovery in the Canadian wilderness, navigated the Caribbean by catamaran and even undertaken pilgrimages to the holiest sites of mainland Europe.

All of this is to say, that of the 170,000 people who vanish in the United Kingdom every year, no two missing person cases are the same.

Some people are overwhelmed following lengthy battles with severe mental health issues, whilst others have found themselves under too much pressure, whether familial or financial. There are those who fall down the rabbit hole of addiction and can’t climb out and there are people who simply found themselves in the wrong place, at the wrong time, in the wrong company.

And then there are the cases where the circumstances remain a total and utter mystery.

By revisiting some of the interviews we’ve recorded over the past four years, we hope to illustrate just some of the myriad of reasons why people go missing and paint a picture of what life is like for the loved ones left behind to pick up the pieces.

This podcast wouldn’t exist without them.
